30.10.2025 09:00
Metropolia University of Applied Sciences
This annual gathering explores creativity, imagination, and the role of arts-based and creative practices in promoting wellbeing. The event takes place on 30 October 2025.
This page is used for registering to parallel sessions of the event. Please note: For participants following the English-language path, no additional registration is required. Your day will include the following sessions, designed especially for our international and English-speaking guests:
9:45 AM – 10:30 AM: Keynote speech
From uncertainty to opportunity: Embracing creativity and social change professionally
Speaker: Eeva Siljamäki, Postdoctoral researcher, University of Jyväskylä & Kone Foundation
This keynote explores creative professionalism in/for social change by constructing safer, inclusive spaces through diverse forms of participation and ethical competence. Navigating unpredictability, creative professionals cultivate resilience and flexibility, adapting processes to participant needs. By questioning assumptions and embracing uncertainty, we transform challenges into opportunities for meaningful engagement.
12:15 PM – 1:45 PM: Afternoon workshop
You are a musician! This workshop begins with a simple and accessible collaborative music-making experience. We will then reflect together upon the boundaries of music/sound and musician/non-musician. My objective is for participants to leave the session feeling a closer connection to their musical self.
The workshop is led by Jean-Philippe Després: ”I’m a researcher and professor at Université Laval (Québec, Canada), where I currently head the Master’s and Ph.D. programs in music education. I played music in bands for more than ten years before starting my formal music training, which might have set the stage for my interest in creativity, learning through play, and inclusive education.”
1:45 PM – 3:00 PM: Closing session for professionals and Master’s degree students (also open to all English-speaking event participants, including Bachelor’s students)
Keynote: Stigma and societal narratives
Speaker: Annuska Dal Maso, Doctoral student, University of Eastern Finland (UEF)
This presentation introduces a research plan examining how language in media and official discourses constructs and sustains stigma toward people who use drugs. These narratives often frame them as dangerous, unreliable, or morally failing, influencing whose needs are recognized and under what conditions their participation in society is seen as legitimate. The study draws on critical discourse analysis and theories of social justice to explore how linguistic practices may reinforce exclusion or, alternatively, open possibilities for more inclusive services.
Group discussion – facilitated by Sanna Kivijärvi, DMus, Senior Lecturer and Researcher, will follow the keynote.
There’s no need to register separately for these sessions – simply join the English-language program on the event day.
We look forward to welcoming you to Landscapes of Possibilities 2025!
